Adult Programs
Summer Reading Program: Have Book, Will Travel
June 8-August 3
HAVE BOOK, WILL TRAVEL is the theme for the adult and teen Summer Reading Program. The first day to register will be Saturday, June 8 from 10 am to 4:00 pm. The first 75 adults and teens with Alsip-Merrionette Park Library cards will receive a gift. All who register the first day will also be entered in a special raffle for prizes.
Readers will travel the world through their choice of books that have a real place (city, town, country, river, etc.) in the title or subtitle. You only have to read three books to complete the requirements for the finishing prize. Patrons who finish will also be entered into a grand prize drawing.
Book Discussion Group
The Group meets on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. To register, please contact the Adult Services Dept. at 708/371-5666 x 108 or x 109.
Books are available at the Circulation Desk the month before the discussion. (Please pick them up more than a week in advance; during the last week before the discussion, the books are returned to their home libraries. Thank you!)
(*Note: Group does not meet during January and the summer months.)
Society of Lifetime of Readers
Another reading club, the Society of Lifetime Readers, is open to all Library District residents aged 18 and above. No time restraints are placed on you; you can read at your own pace. Prizes are awarded for reading 25, 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 books. Sign up in Adult Services.
Computer Classes
Due to popular demand, we will be offering adult computer classes this spring. John Hojek will again be the instructor. These classes are for those who are unfamiliar with the computer and with the Internet.
Beginning Internet -- Friday, May 17 from 10 AM -- 2 PM
Registration is open now, and must be in-person at the Reference Desk with a valid Alsip-Merrionette Park Library card or ID. For residents of the Alsip-Merrionette Park Library District, there will be a $10 non-refundable registration fee for each class. The non-refundable fee for non-residents is $25.
If the class does not meet the minimum requirement of 8 students, your fee will be reimbursed.
Alsip-Merrionette Park Library District residents will have priority, and non-residents will be placed on a waiting list.
If you can't attend the class for any reason, we ask that you cancel 72 hours in advance to allow another patron to attend the class. If you fail to do so, or don't show up the day of the class, you will be ineligible for any other AMPL computer class.
